Friendsgiving Book Club: A Million Little Choices

Some book club meetings are about the book.

And some are about the feeling in the room.

This one was both.

For this meeting, my friend Lauren and I decided to combine book club with one of my favourite traditions: Friendsgiving. The result was one of the coziest, most joyful nights of the year — full of good food, flannel, laughter, and a book that sparked such a great conversation.

Our Pick: A Million Little Choices

We chose A Million Little Choices — a book built around an interesting and thought-provoking concept: the idea that our lives are shaped by countless small decisions, and that one choice can quietly change everything.

It’s the kind of story that naturally leads to discussion.

As we read, we found ourselves constantly asking:

  • What would we do in that situation?

  • Which choices felt realistic?

  • What didn’t fully line up for us?

  • How much of life is intention… and how much is chance?

It made for such a lively, personal book club conversation, with everyone bringing their own perspectives and “what if” moments to the table.

Friendsgiving Meets Book Club

The theme for the night was flannel, and everyone absolutely understood the assignment.

We went all in:

  • flannel outfits

  • a flannel tablecloth

  • flannel napkins

  • pumpkins and candles as a warm, autumn centerpiece

The whole space felt perfectly Fall — cozy, inviting, and festive without being overdone.

Everyone brought a dish to contribute, and the table was overflowing with comfort food and shared favourites. Exactly what Friendsgiving should be.

Handmade Place Settings (Of Course)

For the table, I always love creating something small and personal, and this time I made handmade jewelry trays for each guest.

They were little clay trays stamped with everyone’s names, then painted in soft white and gold. They acted as both a place setting and a keepsake — one of those small touches that makes the night feel extra special.

The Highlight: A Book Exchange

My favourite part of the entire evening was the book exchange.

I asked everyone to bring a book from home that they truly loved — something meaningful, something they were willing to part with so someone else could discover it.

Each person presented their book and shared why it resonated with them, and then we took turns drawing names to choose a new book to bring home.

It was such a fun way to learn more about each other, and honestly so touching to hear everyone talk about the stories that have stayed with them.

There’s something really special about trading a book that mattered to you, and watching it become someone else’s next favourite read.

A Perfect Friendsgiving Night

This night was cozy, thoughtful, creative, and full of community — everything I love most about book club.

Great discussion, beautiful food, flannel everywhere, and a room full of people who love gathering as much as they love reading.

A Friendsgiving book club I’ll always remember.
